If it had not been the LORD who was on our side— let Israel now say— | 1If the LORD had not been on our side— let Israel now say— |
if it had not been the LORD who was on our side when people rose up against us, | 2if the LORD had not been on our side, when men came against us, |
then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; | 3then they would have devoured us alive, when their anger burned against us. |
then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; | 4Then the flood waters would have overwhelmed us, the torrent would have flooded over us; |
then over us would have gone the raging waters. | 5the swollen waters would have swept us away. |
Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! | 6Blessed be the LORD, who did not give us as prey to their teeth. |
We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! | 7We have escaped like a bird from the hunter's trap. The trap has been broken, and we have escaped. |
Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. | 8Our help is in the name of the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth. |
