English Standard Version | New International Version |
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side— let Israel now say— | 1A song of ascents. Of David. If the LORD had not been on our side-- let Israel say-- |
if it had not been the LORD who was on our side when people rose up against us, | 2if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us, |
then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; | 3they would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us; |
then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; | 4the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us, |
then over us would have gone the raging waters. | 5the raging waters would have swept us away. |
Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! | 6Praise be to the LORD, who has not let us be torn by their teeth. |
We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! | 7We have escaped like a bird from the fowler's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped. |
Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. | 8Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. |
