English Standard Version | International Standard Version |
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. | 1Brothers, if a person is caught doing something wrong, those of you who are spiritual should restore that person gently. Watch out for yourself so that you are not tempted as well. |
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. | 2Practice carrying each other's burdens. In this way you will fulfill the law of the Messiah. |
For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. | 3For if anyone thinks he is something when he is really nothing, he is only fooling himself. |
But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. | 4Each person must examine his own actions, and then he can boast about his own accomplishments and not about someone else. |
For each will have to bear his own load. | 5For everyone must carry his own load. |
Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. | 6The person who is taught the word should share all his goods with his teacher. |
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. | 7Stop being deceived; God is not to be ridiculed. A person harvests whatever he plants: |
For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. | 8The person who sows through human means will harvest decay from human means, but the person who sows in the Spirit will harvest eternal life from the Spirit. |
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. | 9Let's not get tired of doing what is good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest—if we do not give up. |
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. | 10So then, whenever we have the opportunity, let's practice doing good to everyone, especially to the family of faith. |
See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. | 11Look at how large these letters are because I am writing with my own hand! |
It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh who would force you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. | 12These people who want to impress others by their external appearance are trying to force you to be circumcised, simply to avoid being persecuted for the cross of the Messiah. |
For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. | 13Why, not even those who are circumcised obey the Law! They simply want you to be circumcised so that they can boast about your external appearance. |
But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. | 14But may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world! |
For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. | 15For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision matters. Rather, what matters is being a new creation. |
And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. | 16Now may peace be on all those who live by this principle, and may mercy be on the Israel of God. |
From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. | 17Let no one make any more trouble for me, because I carry the scars of Jesus on my own body. |
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen. | 18May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with your spirit, brothers! Amen. |
