O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath! | 1A Psalm of David, for remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath. |
For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has come down on me. | 2For Your arrows have pierced me deeply, and Your hand has pressed down on me. |
There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. | 3There is no soundness in my body because of Your anger; there is no rest in my bones because of my sin. |
For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. | 4For my iniquities have overwhelmed me; they are a burden too heavy to bear. |
My wounds stink and fester because of my foolishness, | 5My wounds are foul and festering because of my sinful folly. |
I am utterly bowed down and prostrate; all the day I go about mourning. | 6I am bent and brought low; all day long I go about mourning. |
For my sides are filled with burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. | 7For my loins are full of burning pain, and no soundness remains in my body. |
I am feeble and crushed; I groan because of the tumult of my heart. | 8I am numb and badly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. |
O Lord, all my longing is before you; my sighing is not hidden from you. | 9O Lord, my every desire is before You; my groaning is not hidden from You. |
My heart throbs; my strength fails me, and the light of my eyes—it also has gone from me. | 10My heart pounds, my strength fails, and even the light of my eyes has faded. |
My friends and companions stand aloof from my plague, and my nearest kin stand far off. | 11My beloved and friends shun my disease, and my kinsmen stand at a distance. |
Those who seek my life lay their snares; those who seek my hurt speak of ruin and meditate treachery all day long. | 12Those who seek my life lay snares; those who wish me harm speak destruction, plotting deceit all day long. |
But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear, like a mute man who does not open his mouth. | 13But like a deaf man, I do not hear; and like a mute man, I do not open my mouth. |
I have become like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no rebukes. | 14I am like a man who cannot hear, whose mouth offers no reply. |
But for you, O LORD, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer. | 15I wait for You, O LORD; You will answer, O Lord my God. |
For I said, “Only let them not rejoice over me, who boast against me when my foot slips!” | 16For I said, “Let them not gloat over me—those who taunt me when my foot slips.” |
For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever before me. | 17For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me. |
I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin. | 18Yes, I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. |
But my foes are vigorous, they are mighty, and many are those who hate me wrongfully. | 19Many are my enemies without cause, and many hate me without reason. |
Those who render me evil for good accuse me because I follow after good. | 20Those who repay my good with evil attack me for pursuing the good. |
Do not forsake me, O LORD! O my God, be not far from me! | 21Do not forsake me, O LORD; be not far from me, O my God. |
Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation! | 22Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior. |
