Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered:
How long until you stop talking? Show some sense, and then we can talk.2"How long until you make an end of words? You must consider, and then we can talk.
Why are we regarded as cattle, as stupid in your sight?3Why should we be regarded as beasts, and considered stupid in your sight?
You who tear yourself in anger--should the earth be abandoned on your account, or a rock be removed from its place?4You who tear yourself to pieces in your anger, will the earth be abandoned for your sake? Or will a rock be moved from its place?
Yes, the light of the wicked is extinguished; the flame of his fire does not glow.5"Yes, the lamp of the wicked is extinguished; his flame of fire does not shine.
The light in his tent grows dark, and the lamp beside him is put out.6The light in his tent grows dark; his lamp above him is extinguished.
His powerful stride is shortened, and his own schemes trip him up.7His vigorous steps are restricted, and his own counsel throws him down.
For his own feet lead him into a net, and he strays into its mesh.8For he has been thrown into a net by his feet and he wanders into a mesh.
A trap catches him by the heel; a noose seizes him.9A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare grips him.
A rope lies hidden for him on the ground, and a snare waits for him along the path.10A rope is hidden for him on the ground and a trap for him lies on the path.
Terrors frighten him on every side and harass him at every step.11Terrors frighten him on all sides and dog his every step.
His strength is depleted; disaster lies ready for him to stumble.12Calamity is hungry for him, and misfortune is ready at his side.
Parts of his skin are eaten away; death's firstborn consumes his limbs.13It eats away parts of his skin; the most terrible death devours his limbs.
He is ripped from the security of his tent and marched away to the king of terrors.14He is dragged from the security of his tent, and marched off to the king of terrors.
Nothing he owned remains in his tent. Burning sulfur is scattered over his home.15Fire resides in his tent; over his residence burning sulfur is scattered.
His roots below dry up, and his branches above wither away.16Below his roots dry up, and his branches wither above.
All memory of him perishes from the earth; he has no name anywhere.17His memory perishes from the earth, he has no name in the land.
He is driven from light to darkness and chased from the inhabited world.18He is driven from light into darkness and is banished from the world.
He has no children or descendants among his people, no survivor where he used to live.19He has neither children nor descendants among his people, no survivor in those places he once stayed.
Those in the west are appalled at his fate, while those in the east tremble in horror.20People of the west are appalled at his fate; people of the east are seized with horror, saying,
Indeed, such is the dwelling of the unjust man, and this is the place of the one who does not know God.21Surely such is the residence of an evil man; and this is the place of one who has not known God.'"
