Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.1Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, partners in a heavenly calling, take note of Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess,
He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was in all God's household.2who is faithful to the one who appointed him, as Moses was also in God's house.
For Jesus is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder has more honor than the house.3For he has come to deserve greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house deserves greater honor than the house itself!
Now every house is built by someone, but the one who built everything is God.4For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.
Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's household, as a testimony to what would be said in the future.5Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken.
But Christ was faithful as a Son over his household. And we are that household if we hold on to our confidence and the hope in which we boast.6But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. We are of his house, if in fact we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope we take pride in.
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear his voice,7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks!
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,8"Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness.
where your fathers tested me, tried me, and saw my works9"There your fathers tested me and tried me, and they saw my works for forty years.
for forty years. Therefore I was provoked to anger with that generation and said, "They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known my ways."10"Therefore, I became provoked at that generation and said, 'Their hearts are always wandering and they have not known my ways.'
So I swore in my anger, "They will not enter my rest."11"As I swore in my anger, 'They will never enter my rest!'"
Watch out, brothers and sisters, so that there won't be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.12See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes the living God.
But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin's deception.13But exhort one another each day, as long as it is called "Today," that none of you may become hardened by sin's deception.
For we have become participants in Christ if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start.14For we have become partners with Christ, if in fact we hold our initial confidence firm until the end.
As it is said: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.15As it says, "Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks! Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."
For who heard and rebelled? Wasn't it all who came out of Egypt under Moses?16For which ones heard and rebelled? Was it not all who came out of Egypt under Moses' leadership?
With whom was God angry for forty years? Wasn't it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?17And against whom was God provoked for forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, if not to those who disobeyed?18And to whom did he swear they would never enter into his rest, except those who were disobedient?
So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.19So we see that they could not enter because of unbelief.
