Happy is one who is considerate of the poor; the LORD will save him in a day of adversity. | 1For the choir director. A Psalm of David. How blessed is he who considers the helpless; The LORD will deliver him in a day of trouble. |
The LORD will keep him and preserve him; he will be blessed in the land. You will not give him over to the desire of his enemies. | 2The LORD will protect him and keep him alive, And he shall be called blessed upon the earth; And do not give him over to the desire of his enemies. |
The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed; you will heal him on the bed where he lies. | 3The LORD will sustain him upon his sickbed; In his illness, You restore him to health. |
I said, "LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you." | 4As for me, I said, "O LORD, be gracious to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You." |
My enemies speak maliciously about me: "When will he die and be forgotten?" | 5My enemies speak evil against me, "When will he die, and his name perish?" |
When one of them comes to visit, he speaks deceitfully; he stores up evil in his heart; he goes out and talks. | 6And when he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood; His heart gathers wickedness to itself; When he goes outside, he tells it. |
All who hate me whisper together about me; they plan to harm me. | 7All who hate me whisper together against me; Against me they devise my hurt, saying, |
"Something awful has overwhelmed him, and he won't rise again from where he lies!" | 8"A wicked thing is poured out upon him, That when he lies down, he will not rise up again." |
Even my friend in whom I trusted, one who ate my bread, has raised his heel against me. | 9Even my close friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. |
But you, LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up; then I will repay them. | 10But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, That I may repay them. |
By this I know that you delight in me: my enemy does not shout in triumph over me. | 11By this I know that You are pleased with me, Because my enemy does not shout in triumph over me. |
You supported me because of my integrity and set me in your presence forever. | 12As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And You set me in Your presence forever. |
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and amen. | 13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen. |
