Dishonest scales are detestable to the LORD, but an accurate weight is his delight.1A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.
When arrogance comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom.2When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the treacherous destroys them.3The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them.
Wealth is not profitable on a day of wrath, but righteousness rescues from death.4Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.
The righteousness of the blameless clears his path, but the wicked person will fall because of his wickedness.5The righteousness of the blameless will smooth his way, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.
The righteousness of the upright rescues them, but the treacherous are trapped by their own desires.6The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the treacherous will be caught by their own greed.
When the wicked person dies, his expectation comes to nothing, and hope placed in wealth vanishes.7When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of strong men perishes.
The righteous one is rescued from trouble; in his place, the wicked one goes in.8The righteous is delivered from trouble, But the wicked takes his place.
With his mouth the ungodly destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous are rescued.9With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
When the righteous thrive, a city rejoices; when the wicked die, there is joyful shouting.10When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, And when the wicked perish, there is joyful shouting.
A city is built up by the blessing of the upright, but it is torn down by the mouth of the wicked.11By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, But by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.
Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a person with understanding keeps silent.12He who despises his neighbor lacks sense, But a man of understanding keeps silent.
A gossip goes around revealing a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence.13He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is trustworthy conceals a matter.
Without guidance, a people will fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance.14Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory.
If someone puts up security for a stranger, he will suffer for it, but the one who hates such agreements is protected.15He who is guarantor for a stranger will surely suffer for it, But he who hates being a guarantor is secure.
A gracious woman gains honor, but violent people gain only riches.16A gracious woman attains honor, And ruthless men attain riches.
A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel person brings ruin on himself.17The merciful man does himself good, But the cruel man does himself harm.
The wicked person earns an empty wage, but the one who sows righteousness, a true reward.18The wicked earns deceptive wages, But he who sows righteousness gets a true reward.
Genuine righteousness leads to life, but pursuing evil leads to death.19He who is steadfast in righteousness will attain to life, And he who pursues evil will bring about his own death.
Those with twisted minds are detestable to the LORD, but those with blameless conduct are his delight.20The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, But the blameless in their walk are His delight.
Be assured that a wicked person will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will escape.21Assuredly, the evil man will not go unpunished, But the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.
A beautiful woman who rejects good sense is like a gold ring in a pig's snout.22As a ring of gold in a swine's snout So is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion.
The desire of the righteous turns out well, but the hope of the wicked leads to wrath.23The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor.24There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want.
A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water.25The generous man will be prosperous, And he who waters will himself be watered.
People will curse anyone who hoards grain, but a blessing will come to the one who sells it.26He who withholds grain, the people will curse him, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.
The one who searches for what is good seeks favor, but if someone looks for trouble, it will come to him.27He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, But he who seeks evil, evil will come to him.
Anyone trusting in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage.28He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.
The one who brings ruin on his household will inherit the wind, and a fool will be a slave to someone whose heart is wise.29He who troubles his own house will inherit wind, And the foolish will be servant to the wisehearted.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and a wise person captivates people.30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise wins souls.
If the righteous will be repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and sinful.31If the righteous will be rewarded in the earth, How much more the wicked and the sinner!
