Christian Standard Bible | English Standard Version |
Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous ones; praise from the upright is beautiful. | 1Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. |
Praise the LORD with the lyre; make music to him with a ten-stringed harp. | 2Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! |
Sing a new song to him; play skillfully on the strings, with a joyful shout. | 3Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. |
For the word of the LORD is right, and all his work is trustworthy. | 4For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. |
He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the LORD's unfailing love. | 5He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD. |
The heavens were made by the word of the LORD, and all the stars, by the breath of his mouth. | 6By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. |
He gathers the water of the sea into a heap; he puts the depths into storehouses. | 7He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. |
Let the whole earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. | 8Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! |
For he spoke, and it came into being; he commanded, and it came into existence. | 9For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. |
The LORD frustrates the counsel of the nations; he thwarts the plans of the peoples. | 10The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. |
The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart from generation to generation. | 11The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. |
Happy is the nation whose God is the LORD--the people he has chosen to be his own possession! | 12Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! |
The LORD looks down from heaven; he observes everyone. | 13The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; |
He gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth from his dwelling place. | 14from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, |
He forms the hearts of them all; he considers all their works. | 15he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. |
A king is not saved by a large army; a warrior will not be rescued by great strength. | 16The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. |
The horse is a false hope for safety; it provides no escape by its great power. | 17The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue. |
But look, the LORD keeps his eye on those who fear him--those who depend on his faithful love | 18Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, |
to rescue them from death and to keep them alive in famine. | 19that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. |
We wait for the LORD; he is our help and shield. | 20Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. |
For our hearts rejoice in him because we trust in his holy name. | 21For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. |
May your faithful love rest on us, LORD, for we put our hope in you. | 22Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you. |
