LORD, do not punish me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. | 1A Psalm of David, for remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath. |
For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has pressed down on me. | 2For Your arrows have pierced me deeply, and Your hand has pressed down on me. |
There is no soundness in my body because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. | 3There is no soundness in my body because of Your anger; there is no rest in my bones because of my sin. |
For my iniquities have flooded over my head; they are a burden too heavy for me to bear. | 4For my iniquities have overwhelmed me; they are a burden too heavy to bear. |
My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness. | 5My wounds are foul and festering because of my sinful folly. |
I am bent over and brought very low; all day long I go around in mourning. | 6I am bent and brought low; all day long I go about mourning. |
For my insides are full of burning pain, and there is no soundness in my body. | 7For my loins are full of burning pain, and no soundness remains in my body. |
I am faint and severely crushed; I groan because of the anguish of my heart. | 8I am numb and badly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. |
Lord, my every desire is in front of you; my sighing is not hidden from you. | 9O Lord, my every desire is before You; my groaning is not hidden from You. |
My heart races, my strength leaves me, and even the light of my eyes has faded. | 10My heart pounds, my strength fails, and even the light of my eyes has faded. |
My loved ones and friends stand back from my affliction, and my relatives stand at a distance. | 11My beloved and friends shun my disease, and my kinsmen stand at a distance. |
Those who intend to kill me set traps, and those who want to harm me threaten to destroy me; they plot treachery all day long. | 12Those who seek my life lay snares; those who wish me harm speak destruction, plotting deceit all day long. |
I am like a deaf person; I do not hear. I am like a speechless person who does not open his mouth. | 13But like a deaf man, I do not hear; and like a mute man, I do not open my mouth. |
I am like a man who does not hear and has no arguments in his mouth. | 14I am like a man who cannot hear, whose mouth offers no reply. |
For I put my hope in you, LORD; you will answer me, my Lord, my God. | 15I wait for You, O LORD; You will answer, O Lord my God. |
For I said, "Don't let them rejoice over me--those who are arrogant toward me when I stumble." | 16For I said, “Let them not gloat over me—those who taunt me when my foot slips.” |
For I am about to fall, and my pain is constantly with me. | 17For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me. |
So I confess my iniquity; I am anxious because of my sin. | 18Yes, I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. |
But my enemies are vigorous and powerful; many hate me for no reason. | 19Many are my enemies without cause, and many hate me without reason. |
Those who repay evil for good attack me for pursuing good. | 20Those who repay my good with evil attack me for pursuing the good. |
LORD, do not abandon me; my God, do not be far from me. | 21Do not forsake me, O LORD; be not far from me, O my God. |
Hurry to help me, my Lord, my salvation. | 22Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior. |
