For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cried out to God; I cried aloud to God to hear me. | 1For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. |
In the day of trouble I sought the Lord; through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary; my soul refused to be comforted. | 2When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted. |
I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah | 3I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint. |
You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak. | 4You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. |
I considered the days of old, the years long in the past. | 5I thought about the former days, the years of long ago; |
At night I remembered my song; in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered: | 6I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked: |
“Will the Lord spurn us forever and never show His favor again? | 7"Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? |
Is His loving devotion gone forever? Has His promise failed for all time? | 8Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? |
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His anger shut off His compassion?” Selah | 9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?" |
So I said, “I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.” | 10Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. |
I will remember the works of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old. | 11I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. |
I will reflect on all You have done and ponder Your mighty deeds. | 12I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds." |
Your way, O God, is holy. What god is so great as our God? | 13Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? |
You are the God who works wonders; You display Your strength among the peoples. | 14You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. |
With power You redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah | 15With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. |
The waters saw You, O God; the waters saw You and swirled; even the depths were shaken. | 16The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. |
The clouds poured down water; the skies resounded with thunder; Your arrows flashed back and forth. | 17The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. |
Your thunder resounded in the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. | 18Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. |
Your path led through the sea, Your way through the mighty waters, but Your footprints were not to be found. | 19Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. |
You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. |
