1Rejoice in the LORD, O righteous ones; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him. | 1You godly ones, shout for joy because of the LORD! It is appropriate for the morally upright to offer him praise. |
2Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to Him with ten strings. | 2Give thanks to the LORD with the harp! Sing to him to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument! |
3Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully with a shout of joy. | 3Sing to him a new song! Play skillfully as you shout out your praises to him! |
4For the word of the LORD is upright, and all His work is trustworthy. | 4For the LORD's decrees are just, and everything he does is fair. |
5The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of His loving devotion. | 5The LORD promotes equity and justice; the LORD's faithfulness extends throughout the earth. |
6By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the stars by the breath of His mouth. | 6By the LORD's decree the heavens were made; by a mere word from his mouth all the stars in the sky were created. |
7He piles up the waters of the sea; He puts the depths into storehouses. | 7He piles up the water of the sea; he puts the oceans in storehouses. |
8Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere Him. | 8Let the whole earth fear the LORD! Let all who live in the world stand in awe of him! |

10The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations; He thwarts the devices of the peoples. | 10The LORD frustrates the decisions of the nations; he nullifies the plans of the peoples. |
11The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the purposes of His heart to all generations. | 11The LORD's decisions stand forever; his plans abide throughout the ages. |
12Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance! | 12How blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen to be his special possession. |
13The LORD looks down from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. | 13The LORD watches from heaven; he sees all people. |
14From His dwelling place He gazes on all who inhabit the earth. | 14From the place where he lives he looks carefully at all the earth's inhabitants. |
15He shapes the hearts of each; He considers all their works. | 15He is the one who forms every human heart, and takes note of all their actions. |
16No king is saved by his vast army; no warrior is delivered by his great strength. | 16No king is delivered by his vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great might. |
17A horse is a vain hope for salvation; even its great strength cannot save. | 17A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory; despite its great strength, it cannot deliver. |
18Surely the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His loving devotion | 18Look, the LORD takes notice of his loyal followers, those who wait for him to demonstrate his faithfulness |
19to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. | 19by saving their lives from death and sustaining them during times of famine. |
20Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. | 20We wait for the LORD; he is our deliverer and shield. |
21For our hearts rejoice in Him, since we trust in His holy name. | 21For our hearts rejoice in him, for we trust in his holy name. |
22May Your loving devotion rest on us, O LORD, as we put our hope in You. | 22May we experience your faithfulness, O LORD, for we wait for you. |
