For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments, according to Sheminith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath. | 1For the choir director; with stringed instruments, upon an eight-string lyre. A Psalm of David. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your wrath. |
Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am frail; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are in agony. | 2Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am pining away; Heal me, O LORD, for my bones are dismayed. |
My soul is deeply distressed. How long, O LORD, how long? | 3And my soul is greatly dismayed; But You, O LORD-- how long? |
Turn, O LORD, and deliver my soul; save me because of Your loving devotion. | 4Return, O LORD, rescue my soul; Save me because of Your lovingkindness. |
For there is no mention of You in death; who can praise You from Sheol? | 5For there is no mention of You in death; In Sheol who will give You thanks? |
I am weary from groaning; all night I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. | 6I am weary with my sighing; Every night I make my bed swim, I dissolve my couch with my tears. |
My eyes fail from grief; they grow dim because of all my foes. | 7My eye has wasted away with grief; It has become old because of all my adversaries. |
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the LORD has heard my weeping. | 8Depart from me, all you who do iniquity, For the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping. |
The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer. | 9The LORD has heard my supplication, The LORD receives my prayer. |
All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace. | 10All my enemies will be ashamed and greatly dismayed; They shall turn back, they will suddenly be ashamed. |
