It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is intolerable even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife. | 1It is widely reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated among the Gentiles--a man is living with his father's wife. |
And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been stricken with grief and have removed from your fellowship the man who did this? | 2And you are inflated with pride, instead of filled with grief so that he who has committed this act might be removed from your congregation. |
Although I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, and I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present. | 3For though I am absent in body but present in spirit, I have already decided about the one who has done this thing as though I were present. |
When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of the Lord Jesus, | 4When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus with my spirit and with the power of our Lord Jesus, |
hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord. | 5turn that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord. |
Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven works through the whole batch of dough? | 6Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast permeates the whole batch of dough? |
Get rid of the old leaven, that you may be a new unleavened batch, as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. | 7Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch. You are indeed unleavened, for Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. |
Therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and of truth. | 8Therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old yeast or with the yeast of malice and evil but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. |
I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. | 9I wrote to you in a letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. |
I was not including the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. | 10I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy and swindlers or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world. |
But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. | 11But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer who is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. |
What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? | 12For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Don't you judge those who are inside? |
God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.” | 13But God judges outsiders. Put away the evil person from among yourselves. |
