Judging Others
(Luke 6:37–42; Romans 14:1–12)
1"Judge not, that ye be not judged;
2for with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you.
3"And why do you behold the mote that is in your brother's eye, but consider not the beam in your own eye?
4Or how will you say to your brother, 'Permit me to cast out the mote out of your eye;' and, behold, the beam is in your own eye?
5Hypocrite! Cast out first the beam out of your own eye; and then you will see clearly to cast out the mote out of your brother's eye.
6"Give not that which is holy to the dogs; neither cast your pearls before the swine, lest haply they trample them down with their feet; and, turning, rend you.
Ask, Seek, Knock
(Luke 11:5–13)
7"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you;
8for every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened.
9Or what man is there of you who, if his son shall ask him for bread, will give him a stone?
10Or if he shall ask for a fish, will give him a serpent?
11If, therefore, ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in Heaven give good things to those asking Him?
12"All things, therefore, whatsoever ye wish that men should do to you, so do ye also to them; for this is the law and the prophets.
The Narrow Gate
(Luke 13:22–30)
13"Enter ye in through the narrow gate; because wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter through it;
14because narrow is the gate, and straitened the way that leads to life, and few there are who find it!
A Tree and Its Fruit
(Luke 6:43–45)
15"Beware of false prophets, who, indeed, come to you in sheep's clothing, but within are ravening wolves.
16From their fruits ye shall recognize them. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?
17So every good tree bears good fruit, but the worthless tree bears evil fruit.
18A good tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a worthless tree bear good fruit.
19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
20So then, from their fruits ye shall know them.
21"Not every one who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but he that does the will of My Father in Heaven.
22Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by Thy name? and by Thy name cast out demons, and by Thy name do many mighty works,'"
23And then will I confess to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, ye who work iniquity.
The House on the Rock
(Luke 6:46–49)
24"Every one, therefore, who hears these words of Mine, and does them, shall be likened to a prudent man, who, indeed, built his house upon the rock;
25and the rain descended, and the streams came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not, for it had been founded on the rock.
26"And every one who hears these words of Mine, and does them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, who, indeed, built his house upon the sand:
27and the rain descended, and the streams came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it fell; and great was its fall."
The Authority of Jesus
28And it came to pass that, when Jesus ended these words, the multitudes were astonished at His teaching;
29for He was teaching them as One having authority, and not as the scribes.
