The Beheading of John
(Mark 6:14–29; Luke 9:7–9)

1At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus, and said to his servants, 2"This is John the Immerser; He arose from the dead; and therefore do the powers work in Him."

3For Herod, having laid hold of John, bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. 4For John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her." 5And, wishing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because they were holding him as a prophet.

6But, on a birthday celebration of Herod, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod. 7Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask. 8And she, urged on by her mother, says, "Give me here upon a plate the head of John the Immerser." 9And the king, though grieved, yet, because of the oaths and of those sitting at the table with them, ordered it to be given; 10and, having sent, he beheaded John in the prison; 11and his head was brought upon a plate, and given to the damsel; and she brought it to her mother. 12And his disciples, coming, took up the corpse, and buried it; and, coming, they told Jesus;

The Feeding of the Five Thousand
(Mark 6:30–44; Luke 9:10–17; John 6:1–15)

13And Jesus, having heard it, withdrew thence, in a boat, into a desert, apart. And the multitudes, hearing of it, followed Him on foot from the cities. 14And Jesus, coming forth, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion over them, and healed their sick.

15And, evening coming on, the disciples came to Him, saying, "The place is desert, and the time already passed by: dismiss the multitudes, that, having gone into the villages, they may buy food for themselves." 16But Jesus said to them, "They have no need to go away. Give ye them to eat." 17And they say to Him, "We have nothing here except five loaves and two fishes." 18And He said, "Bring them here to Me." 19And, having commanded the multitudes to recline on the grass?taking the five loaves and two fishes?looking up into the heaven, He blessed; and, having broken, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes. 20And they all ate, and were satisfied; and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. 21And those eating were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Jesus Walks on Water
(Mark 6:45–52; John 6:16–21)

22And straightway He constrained the disciples to enter into a boat, and to go before Him to the other side, while He should dismiss the multitudes. 23And, having dismissed the multitudes, He went up into the mountain, apart, to pray; and, evening coming on, He was there alone. 24But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves; for the wind was contrary. 25And, in the fourth watch of the night, He came to them, walking on the sea. 26And the disciples, seeing Him walking on the sea, were troubled, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for fear. 27But Jesus straightway spake to them, saying, "Be of good cheer. It is I; be not afraid."

28And Peter, answering Him, said, "Lord, if it be Thou, bid me come to Thee on the water." 29And He said, "Come." And, going down from the boat, Peter walked upon the water, and came to Jesus. 30But, seeing the wind, he was frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!" 31And immediately Jesus, stretching forth His hand, took hold of him, and saith to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" 32And, when they went up into the boat, the wind ceased. 33And these in the boat worshiped Him, saying, "Truly Thou art God's Son."

Jesus Heals at Gennesaret
(Mark 6:53–56)

34And, passing over, they came upon the land to Gennesaret. 35And, recognizing Him, the men of that place sent into all that region round about, and brought to Him all who were sick; 36and they were beseeching Him, that they might only touch the border of His garment; and as many as touched it were made thoroughly well.
