Righteousness and Sanctification

Receiving righteousness from God is intrinsically linked to the process of sanctification, where believers are progressively made holy through the work of the Holy Spirit. Philippians 1:11 speaks to this ongoing transformation: "filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God." The fruit of righteousness is evidence of a life being conformed to the image of Christ, reflecting God's character and bringing glory to Him.

Living Out Righteousness

While righteousness is a gift from God, it also calls for a response from the saints. Believers are encouraged to live out their righteousness through acts of obedience and love. Ephesians 4:24 exhorts, "and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." This new self is a reflection of the divine nature imparted to believers, urging them to live in a manner worthy of their calling.

Eternal Implications

The reception of righteousness from God has eternal implications for the saints. It assures them of their standing before God and their future hope. In Matthew 25:46, Jesus speaks of the final judgment, stating, "And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." This promise of eternal life is the ultimate fulfillment of God's gift of righteousness, securing a place for the saints in His everlasting kingdom.

In summary, righteousness for the saints is a divine gift received through faith in Jesus Christ. It is imputed to believers, enabling them to stand justified before God, and is evidenced through a life of sanctification and obedience.
