New Living Translation | New International Version |
The LORD, the Mighty One, is God, and he has spoken; he has summoned all humanity from where the sun rises to where it sets. | 1A psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets. |
From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines in glorious radiance. | 2From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth. |
Our God approaches, and he is not silent. Fire devours everything in his way, and a great storm rages around him. | 3Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages. |
He calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people. | 4He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people: |
“Bring my faithful people to me— those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices.” | 5"Gather to me this consecrated people, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice." |
Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge. Interlude | 6And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for he is a God of justice. |
“O my people, listen as I speak. Here are my charges against you, O Israel: I am God, your God! | 7"Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel: I am God, your God. |
I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer. | 8I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me. |
But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens. | 9I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, |
For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. | 10for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. |
I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine. | 11I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine. |
If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it. | 12If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it. |
Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats? | 13Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? |
Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. | 14"Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, |
Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” | 15and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me." |
But God says to the wicked: “Why bother reciting my decrees and pretending to obey my covenant? | 16But to the wicked person, God says: "What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? |
For you refuse my discipline and treat my words like trash. | 17You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you. |
When you see thieves, you approve of them, and you spend your time with adulterers. | 18When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers. |
Your mouth is filled with wickedness, and your tongue is full of lies. | 19You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit. |
You sit around and slander your brother— your own mother’s son. | 20You sit and testify against your brother and slander your own mother's son. |
While you did all this, I remained silent, and you thought I didn’t care. But now I will rebuke you, listing all my charges against you. | 21When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you. |
Repent, all of you who forget me, or I will tear you apart, and no one will help you. | 22"Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you: |
But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.” | 23Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation." |
