Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. | 1Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. |
Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. | 2Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders. |
Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD. | 3Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad. |
Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him. | 4Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. |
Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given, | 5Remember His wonders which He has done, His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth, |
you children of his servant Abraham, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones. | 6O seed of Abraham, His servant, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! |
He is the LORD our God. His justice is seen throughout the land. | 7He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth. |
He always stands by his covenant— the commitment he made to a thousand generations. | 8He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations, |
This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac. | 9The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac. |
He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, and to the people of Israel as a never-ending covenant: | 10Then He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, |
“I will give you the land of Canaan as your special possession.” | 11Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan As the portion of your inheritance," |
He said this when they were few in number, a tiny group of strangers in Canaan. | 12When they were only a few men in number, Very few, and strangers in it. |
They wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. | 13And they wandered about from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people. |
Yet he did not let anyone oppress them. He warned kings on their behalf: | 14He permitted no man to oppress them, And He reproved kings for their sakes: |
“Do not touch my chosen people, and do not hurt my prophets.” | 15"Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm." |
He called for a famine on the land of Canaan, cutting off its food supply. | 16And He called for a famine upon the land; He broke the whole staff of bread. |
Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them— Joseph, who was sold as a slave. | 17He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave. |
They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar. | 18They afflicted his feet with fetters, He himself was laid in irons; |
Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the LORD tested Joseph’s character. | 19Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the LORD tested him. |
Then Pharaoh sent for him and set him free; the ruler of the nation opened his prison door. | 20The king sent and released him, The ruler of peoples, and set him free. |
Joseph was put in charge of all the king’s household; he became ruler over all the king’s possessions. | 21He made him lord of his house And ruler over all his possessions, |
He could instruct the king’s aides as he pleased and teach the king’s advisers. | 22To imprison his princes at will, That he might teach his elders wisdom. |
Then Israel arrived in Egypt; Jacob lived as a foreigner in the land of Ham. | 23Israel also came into Egypt; Thus Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. |
And the LORD multiplied the people of Israel until they became too mighty for their enemies. | 24And He caused His people to be very fruitful, And made them stronger than their adversaries. |
Then he turned the Egyptians against the Israelites, and they plotted against the LORD’s servants. | 25He turned their heart to hate His people, To deal craftily with His servants. |
But the LORD sent his servant Moses, along with Aaron, whom he had chosen. | 26He sent Moses His servant, And Aaron, whom He had chosen. |
They performed miraculous signs among the Egyptians, and wonders in the land of Ham. | 27They performed His wondrous acts among them, And miracles in the land of Ham. |
The LORD blanketed Egypt in darkness, for they had defied his commands to let his people go. | 28He sent darkness and made it dark; And they did not rebel against His words. |
He turned their water into blood, poisoning all the fish. | 29He turned their waters into blood And caused their fish to die. |
Then frogs overran the land and even invaded the king’s bedrooms. | 30Their land swarmed with frogs Even in the chambers of their kings. |
When the LORD spoke, flies descended on the Egyptians, and gnats swarmed across Egypt. | 31He spoke, and there came a swarm of flies And gnats in all their territory. |
He sent them hail instead of rain, and lightning flashed over the land. | 32He gave them hail for rain, And flaming fire in their land. |
He ruined their grapevines and fig trees and shattered all the trees. | 33He struck down their vines also and their fig trees, And shattered the trees of their territory. |
He spoke, and hordes of locusts came— young locusts beyond number. | 34He spoke, and locusts came, And young locusts, even without number, |
They ate up everything green in the land, destroying all the crops in their fields. | 35And ate up all vegetation in their land, And ate up the fruit of their ground. |
Then he killed the oldest son in each Egyptian home, the pride and joy of each family. | 36He also struck down all the firstborn in their land, The first fruits of all their vigor. |
The LORD brought his people out of Egypt, loaded with silver and gold; and not one among the tribes of Israel even stumbled. | 37Then He brought them out with silver and gold, And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled. |
Egypt was glad when they were gone, for they feared them greatly. | 38Egypt was glad when they departed, For the dread of them had fallen upon them. |
The LORD spread a cloud above them as a covering and gave them a great fire to light the darkness. | 39He spread a cloud for a covering, And fire to illumine by night. |
They asked for meat, and he sent them quail; he satisfied their hunger with manna—bread from heaven. | 40They asked, and He brought quail, And satisfied them with the bread of heaven. |
He split open a rock, and water gushed out to form a river through the dry wasteland. | 41He opened the rock and water flowed out; It ran in the dry places like a river. |
For he remembered his sacred promise to his servant Abraham. | 42For He remembered His holy word With Abraham His servant; |
So he brought his people out of Egypt with joy, his chosen ones with rejoicing. | 43And He brought forth His people with joy, His chosen ones with a joyful shout. |
He gave his people the lands of pagan nations, and they harvested crops that others had planted. | 44He gave them also the lands of the nations, That they might take possession of the fruit of the peoples' labor, |
All this happened so they would follow his decrees and obey his instructions. Praise the LORD! | 45So that they might keep His statutes And observe His laws, Praise the LORD! |
