New Living Translation | King James Bible |
God is honored in Judah; his name is great in Israel. | 1To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm or Song of Asaph. In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel. |
Jerusalem is where he lives; Mount Zion is his home. | 2In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion. |
There he has broken the fiery arrows of the enemy, the shields and swords and weapons of war. Interlude | 3There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah. |
You are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting mountains. | 4Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey. |
Our boldest enemies have been plundered. They lie before us in the sleep of death. No warrior could lift a hand against us. | 5The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands. |
At the blast of your breath, O God of Jacob, their horses and chariots lay still. | 6At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep. |
No wonder you are greatly feared! Who can stand before you when your anger explodes? | 7Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry? |
From heaven you sentenced your enemies; the earth trembled and stood silent before you. | 8Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still, |
You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God, and to rescue the oppressed of the earth. Interlude | 9When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah. |
Human defiance only enhances your glory, for you use it as a weapon. | 10Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain. |
Make vows to the LORD your God, and keep them. Let everyone bring tribute to the Awesome One. | 11Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared. |
For he breaks the pride of princes, and the kings of the earth fear him. | 12He shall cut off the spirit of princes: he is terrible to the kings of the earth. |
