New Living Translation | King James Bible |
The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. | 1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. |
Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. | 2Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. |
They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. | 3There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. |
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. | 4Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, |
It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. | 5Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. |
The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat. | 6His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. |
The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. | 7The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. |
The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living. | 8The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. |
Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. | 9The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. |
They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. | 10More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. |
They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them. | 11Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. |
How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. | 12Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. |
Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. | 13Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. |
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. | 14Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. |
