| 1From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help. | 1I cry to you from the depths, LORD, |
| 2Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. | 2Lord, listen to my voice; let your ears pay attention to what I ask of you! |
| 3LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? | 3LORD, if you were to record iniquities, Lord, who could remain standing? |
| 4But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you. | 4But with you there is forgiveness, so that you may be feared. |
| 5I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word. | 5I wait for the LORD; my soul waits, and I will hope in his word. |
| 6I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn. | 6My soul looks to the Lord more than watchmen look for the morning— more, indeed, than watchmen for the morning. |
