| 1Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work. Words of Encouragement | 1So then, my dearly loved and longed for brothers and sisters, my joy and crown, in this manner stand firm in the Lord, dear friends. |
| 2Now I appeal to Euodia and Syntyche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement. | 2I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to agree in the Lord. |
| 3And I ask you, my true partner, to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News. They worked along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are written in the Book of Life. | 3Yes, I also ask you, true partner, to help these women who have contended for the gospel at my side, along with Clement and the rest of my coworkers whose names are in the book of life. |
| 4Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! | 4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! |
| 5Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. | 5Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. |
| 6Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. | 6Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. |
| 7Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. | 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. |
| 8And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. | 8Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable--if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy--dwell on these things. |
| 9Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. Paul’s Thanks for Their Gifts | 9Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. |
| 10How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me. | 10I rejoiced in the Lord greatly because once again you renewed your care for me. You were, in fact, concerned about me but lacked the opportunity to show it. |
| 11Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. | 11I don't say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I find myself. |
| 12I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. | 12I know both how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content--whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. |
| 13For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. | 13I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me. |
| 14Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty. | 14Still, you did well by partnering with me in my hardship. |
| 15As you know, you Philippians were the only ones who gave me financial help when I first brought you the Good News and then traveled on from Macedonia. No other church did this. | 15And you Philippians know that in the early days of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you alone. |
| 16Even when I was in Thessalonica you sent help more than once. | 16For even in Thessalonica you sent gifts for my need several times. |
| 17I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness. | 17Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the profit that is increasing to your account. |
| 18At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God. | 18But I have received everything in full, and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you provided--a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. |
| 19And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. | 19And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. |
| 20Now all glory to God our Father forever and ever! Amen. Paul’s Final Greetings | 20Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. |
| 21Give my greetings to each of God’s holy people—all who belong to Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send you their greetings. | 21Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send you greetings. |
| 22And all the rest of God’s people send you greetings, too, especially those in Caesar’s household. | 22All the saints send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesar's household. |
