6and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. 18One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. | 18As he was walking along the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter), and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea--for they were fishermen. |
19Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” | 19"Follow me," he told them, "and I will make you fish for people." |
20And they left their nets at once and followed him. | 20Immediately they left their nets and followed him. |
21A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. They were in a boat with Zebedee their father, preparing their nets, and he called them. |
22They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind. Crowds Follow Jesus | 22Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. |
23Jesus traveled throughout the region of Galilee, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. | 23Now Jesus began to go all over Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. |
24News about him spread as far as Syria, and people soon began bringing to him all who were sick. And whatever their sickness or disease, or if they were demon possessed or epileptic or paralyzed—he healed them all. | 24Then the news about him spread throughout Syria. So they brought to him all those who were afflicted, those suffering from various diseases and intense pains, the demon-possessed, the epileptics, and the paralytics. And he healed them. |
25Large crowds followed him wherever he went—people from Galilee, the Ten Towns, Jerusalem, from all over Judea, and from east of the Jordan River. | 25Large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan. |
