| 1“At that time the LORD said to me, ‘Hew for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to Me on the mountain and make yourself an ark of wood. | 1At that same time the LORD said to me, "Carve out for yourself two stone tablets like the first ones and come up the mountain to me; also make for yourself a wooden ark. |
| 2And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke; and you shall put them in the ark.’ | 2I will write on the tablets the same words that were on the first tablets you broke, and you must put them into the ark." |
| 3“So I made an ark of acacia wood, hewed two tablets of stone like the first, and went up the mountain, having the two tablets in my hand. | 3So I made an ark of acacia wood and carved out two stone tablets just like the first ones. Then I went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hands. |
| 4And He wrote on the tablets according to the first writing, the Ten Commandments, which the LORD had spoken to you in the mountain from the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly; and the LORD gave them to me. | 4The LORD then wrote on the tablets the same words, the ten commandments, which he had spoken to you at the mountain from the middle of the fire at the time of that assembly, and he gave them to me. |

| 12“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, | 12Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you except to revere him, to obey all his commandments, to love him, to serve him with all your mind and being, |
| 13and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good? | 13and to keep the Lord's commandments and statutes that I am giving you today for your own good? |
| 14Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the LORD your God, also the earth with all that is in it. | 14The heavens--indeed the highest heavens--belong to the LORD your God, as does the earth and everything in it. |
| 15The LORD delighted only in your fathers, to love them; and He chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as it is this day. | 15However, only to your ancestors did he show his loving favor, and he chose you, their descendants, from all peoples--as is apparent today. |
| 16Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer. | 16Therefore, cleanse your heart and stop being so stubborn! |

| 18He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing. | 18who justly treats the orphan and widow, and who loves resident foreigners, giving them food and clothing. |
| 19Therefore love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. | 19So you must love the resident foreigner because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. |
| 20You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve Him, and to Him you shall hold fast, and take oaths in His name. | 20Revere the LORD your God, serve him, be loyal to him and take oaths only in his name. |
| 21He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen. | 21He is the one you should praise; he is your God, the one who has done these great and awesome things for you that you have seen. |
| 22Your fathers went down to Egypt with seventy persons, and now the LORD your God has made you as the stars of heaven in multitude. | 22When your ancestors went down to Egypt, they numbered only seventy, but now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky. |
