New King James Version | NET Bible |
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. | 1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but I do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. |
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. | 2And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. |
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. | 3If I give away everything I own, and if I give over my body in order to boast, but do not have love, I receive no benefit. |
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; | 4Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up. |
does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; | 5It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful. |
does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; | 6It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth. |
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. | 7It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. |
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. | 8Love never ends. But if there are prophecies, they will be set aside; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be set aside. |
For we know in part and we prophesy in part. | 9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part, |
But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. | 10but when what is perfect comes, the partial will be set aside. |
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. | 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. But when I became an adult, I set aside childish ways. |
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. | 12For now we see in a mirror indirectly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known. |
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. | 13And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. |
