But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: | 1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. |
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, | 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, |
unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, | 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, |
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, | 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; |
having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! | 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. |
For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, | 6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, |
always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. | 7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. |
Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; | 8Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. |
but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was. | 9But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. |
But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, | 10But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, |
persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. | 11Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. |
Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. | 12Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. |
But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. | 13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. |
But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, | 14But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; |
and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. | 15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, | 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: |
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. | 17That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. |
