| 3unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, | 3heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, |
| 4traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, | 4treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, |
| 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! | 5having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. |
| 6For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, | 6For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, |
| 7always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. | 7always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. |
| 8Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; | 8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. |
| 9but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was. | 9But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men. |

| 11persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. | 11my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. |
| 12Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. | 12Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, |
| 13But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. | 13while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. |
| 14But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, | 14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it |
| 15and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. | 15and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. |
| 16All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, | 16All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, |
