New King James Version | Berean Study Bible |
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: | 1But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come. |
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, | 2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, |
unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, | 3unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good, |
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, | 4traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, |
having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! | 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from such as these! |
For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, | 6They are the kind who worm their way into households and captivate vulnerable women who are weighed down with sins and led astray by various passions, |
always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. | 7who are always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. |
Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; | 8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind and disqualified from the faith. |
but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was. | 9But they will not advance much further. For just like Jannes and Jambres, their folly will be plain to everyone. |
But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, | 10You, however, have observed my teaching, my conduct, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my perseverance, |
persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. | 11my persecutions, and the sufferings that came upon me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. |
Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. | 12Indeed, all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, |
But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. | 13while evil men and imposters go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. |
But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, | 14But as for you, continue in the things you have learned and firmly believed, since you know from whom you have learned them. |
and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. | 15From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. |
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, | 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, |
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. | 17so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work. |
