New King James Version | International Standard Version |
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men; Preserve me from violent men, | 1 Deliver me, LORD, from evil people, preserve me from violent men, |
Who plan evil things in their hearts; They continually gather together for war. | 2who craft evil plans in their minds, inciting wars every day. |
They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; The poison of asps is under their lips. Selah | 3They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; the venom of vipers is on their lips. Interlude |
Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from violent men, Who have purposed to make my steps stumble. | 4Protect me, LORD, from the control of evil people, from violent men who have planned to trip me. |
The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set traps for me. Selah | 5The arrogant have laid a trap for me; they have spread a net with ropes, lining it with snares along the way. Interlude |
I said to the LORD: “You are my God; Hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD. | 6So I say to the LORD, "You are my God; listen to my voice as I plead for mercy, LORD. |
O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle. | 7LORD, my Lord, my strong deliverer, you have protected my head in the time of battle. |
Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; Do not further his wicked scheme, Lest they be exalted. Selah | 8Never grant, LORD, the desires of the wicked; never condone their plans so they cannot exalt themselves. Interlude |
“As for the head of those who surround me, Let the evil of their lips cover them; | 9May those who surround me discover that the trouble they talk about falls on their own head! |
Let burning coals fall upon them; Let them be cast into the fire, Into deep pits, that they rise not up again. | 10May burning coals fall on them; may they be cast into fire, and into miry pits, never to rise again. |
Let not a slanderer be established in the earth; Let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him.” | 11Let not the slanderer become established in the land. May evil quickly hunt down the violent man. |
I know that the LORD will maintain The cause of the afflicted, And justice for the poor. | 12I know that the LORD will act on behalf of the tormented, providing justice for the needy. |
Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; The upright shall dwell in Your presence. | 13Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name, while the upright live in your presence. |
