Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”1Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You can't eat from any tree in the garden?"
And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;2The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit from the trees in the garden.
but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”3But about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said, 'You must not eat it or touch it, or you will die.'""
Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.4No! You will not die," the serpent said to the woman."
For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”5In fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.6Then the woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.7Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.
And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.8Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid themselves from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”9So the LORD God called out to the man and said to him, "Where are you?"
So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”10And he said, "I heard You in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid."
And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”11Then He asked, "Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”12Then the man replied, "The woman You gave to be with me--she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate."
And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”13So the LORD God asked the woman, "What is this you have done?" And the woman said, "It was the serpent. He deceived me, and I ate."
So the LORD God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.14Then the LORD God said to the serpent: Because you have done this, you are cursed more than any livestock and more than any wild animal. You will move on your belly and eat dust all the days of your life.
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”15I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.
To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”16He said to the woman: I will intensify your labor pains; you will bear children in anguish. Your desire will be for your husband, yet he will rule over you.
Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life.17And He said to Adam, "Because you listened to your wife's voice and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'Do not eat from it: The ground is cursed because of you. You will eat from it by means of painful labor all the days of your life.
Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field.18It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.
In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”19You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground, since you were taken from it. For you are dust, and you will return to dust."
And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.20Adam named his wife Eve because she was the mother of all the living.
Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.21The LORD God made clothing out of skins for Adam and his wife, and He clothed them.
Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”—22The LORD God said, "Since man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil, he must not reach out, take from the tree of life, eat, and live forever."
therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.23So the LORD God sent him away from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken.
So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.24He drove man out and stationed the cherubim and the flaming, whirling sword east of the garden of Eden to guard the way to the tree of life.
