| 1Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him: “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. | 1Isaac summoned Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him: "Don't take a wife from the Canaanite women. |
| 2Arise, go to Padan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father; and take yourself a wife from there of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother. | 2Go at once to Paddan-aram, to the house of Bethuel, your mother's father. Marry one of the daughters of Laban, your mother's brother. |
| 3“May God Almighty bless you, And make you fruitful and multiply you, That you may be an assembly of peoples; | 3May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you so that you become an assembly of peoples. |

| 6Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Padan Aram to take himself a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,” | 6Esau noticed that Isaac blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-aram to get a wife there. She was the sister of Nebaioth. |

| 13And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: “I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. | 13Yahweh was standing there beside him, saying, "I am Yahweh, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your offspring the land that you are now sleeping on. |
| 14Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. | 14Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out toward the west, the east, the north, and the south. All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. |
| 15Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.” | 15Look, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. | 18Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it. | 18Early in the morning Jacob took the stone that was near his head and set it up as a marker. He poured oil on top of it |
| 19And he called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of that city had been Luz previously. | 19and named the place Bethel, though previously the city was named Luz. |
| 20Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, | 20Then Jacob made a vow: "If God will be with me and watch over me on this journey, if He provides me with food to eat and clothing to wear, |
| 21so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God. | 21and if I return safely to my father's house, then the LORD will be my God. |
| 22And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.” | 22This stone that I have set up as a marker will be God's house, and I will give to You a tenth of all that You give me." |
