New King James Version | English Standard Version |
To the Chief Musician. Set to “Do Not Destroy.” A Michtam of David. Do you indeed speak righteousness, you silent ones? Do you judge uprightly, you sons of men? | 1Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods? Do you judge the children of man uprightly? |
No, in heart you work wickedness; You weigh out the violence of your hands in the earth. | 2No, in your hearts you devise wrongs; your hands deal out violence on earth. |
The wicked are estranged from the womb; They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies. | 3The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies. |
Their poison is like the poison of a serpent; They are like the deaf cobra that stops its ear, | 4They have venom like the venom of a serpent, like the deaf adder that stops its ear, |
Which will not heed the voice of charmers, Charming ever so skillfully. | 5so that it does not hear the voice of charmers or of the cunning enchanter. |
Break their teeth in their mouth, O God! Break out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD! | 6O God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD! |
Let them flow away as waters which run continually; When he bends his bow, Let his arrows be as if cut in pieces. | 7Let them vanish like water that runs away; when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted. |
Let them be like a snail which melts away as it goes, Like a stillborn child of a woman, that they may not see the sun. | 8Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the stillborn child who never sees the sun. |
Before your pots can feel the burning thorns, He shall take them away as with a whirlwind, As in His living and burning wrath. | 9Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns, whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away! |
The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked, | 10The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked. |
So that men will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; Surely He is God who judges in the earth.” | 11Mankind will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.” |
