New King James Version | English Standard Version |
A Prayer of David. Hear a just cause, O LORD, Attend to my cry; Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips. | 1Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit! |
Let my vindication come from Your presence; Let Your eyes look on the things that are upright. | 2From your presence let my vindication come! Let your eyes behold the right! |
You have tested my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me and have found nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. | 3You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. |
Concerning the works of men, By the word of Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer. | 4With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent. |
Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip. | 5My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped. |
I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. | 6I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. |
Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them. | 7Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand. |
Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings, | 8Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings, |
From the wicked who oppress me, From my deadly enemies who surround me. | 9from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me. |
They have closed up their fat hearts; With their mouths they speak proudly. | 10They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly. |
They have now surrounded us in our steps; They have set their eyes, crouching down to the earth, | 11They have now surrounded our steps; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground. |
As a lion is eager to tear his prey, And like a young lion lurking in secret places. | 12He is like a lion eager to tear, as a young lion lurking in ambush. |
Arise, O LORD, Confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword, | 13Arise, O LORD! Confront him, subdue him! Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword, |
With Your hand from men, O LORD, From men of the world who have their portion in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their possession for their babes. | 14from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants. |
As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. | 15As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. |
