New King James Version | English Standard Version |
To the Chief Musician. On an eight-stringed harp. A Psalm of David. Help, LORD, for the godly man ceases! For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. | 1Save, O LORD, for the godly one is gone; for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man. |
They speak idly everyone with his neighbor; With flattering lips and a double heart they speak. | 2Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. |
May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, And the tongue that speaks proud things, | 3May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts, |
Who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; Who is lord over us?” | 4those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are with us; who is master over us?” |
“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, Now I will arise,” says the LORD; “I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.” | 5“Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the LORD; “I will place him in the safety for which he longs.” |
The words of the LORD are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times. | 6The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. |
You shall keep them, O LORD, You shall preserve them from this generation forever. | 7You, O LORD, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. |
The wicked prowl on every side, When vileness is exalted among the sons of men. | 8On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man. |
