New King James Version | Berean Study Bible |
To the Chief Musician. On an eight-stringed harp. A Psalm of David. Help, LORD, for the godly man ceases! For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. | 1For the choirmaster. According to Sheminith. A Psalm of David. Help, O LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. |
They speak idly everyone with his neighbor; With flattering lips and a double heart they speak. | 2They lie to one another; they speak with flattering lips and a double heart. |
May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, And the tongue that speaks proud things, | 3May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue. |
Who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; Who is lord over us?” | 4They say, “With our tongues we will prevail. We own our lips—who can be our master?” |
“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, Now I will arise,” says the LORD; “I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.” | 5“For the cause of the oppressed and for the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will bring safety to him who yearns.” |
The words of the LORD are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times. | 6The words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace, like gold purified sevenfold. |
You shall keep them, O LORD, You shall preserve them from this generation forever. | 7You, O LORD, will keep us; You will forever guard us from this generation. |
The wicked prowl on every side, When vileness is exalted among the sons of men. | 8The wicked wander freely, and vileness is exalted among men. |
