The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the instruction of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying, | 1This is the word that the prophet Jeremiah spoke to Baruch son of Neriah when he wrote these words on a scroll at Jeremiah's dictation in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah: |
“Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, to you, O Baruch: | 2"This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch: |
‘You said, “Woe is me now! For the LORD has added grief to my sorrow. I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.” ’ | 3'You have said, "Woe is me, because the LORD has added misery to my pain! I am worn out with groaning and have found no rest."' |
“Thus you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Behold, what I have built I will break down, and what I have planted I will pluck up, that is, this whole land. | 4"This is what you are to say to him: 'This is what the LORD says: "What I have built I am about to demolish, and what I have planted I am about to uproot--the whole land! |
And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring adversity on all flesh,” says the LORD. “But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go.” ’ ” | 5But as for you, do you pursue great things for yourself? Stop pursuing! For I am about to bring disaster on everyone"--this is the LORD's declaration--"but I will grant you your life like the spoils of war wherever you go."'" |
