New International Version | NET Bible |
Of David. A maskil. Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. | 1By David; a well-written song. How blessed is the one whose rebellious acts are forgiven, whose sin is pardoned! |
Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. | 2How blessed is the one whose wrongdoing the LORD does not punish, in whose spirit there is no deceit. |
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. | 3When I refused to confess my sin, my whole body wasted away, while I groaned in pain all day long. |
For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. | 4For day and night you tormented me; you tried to destroy me in the intense heat of summer. (Selah) |
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD." And you forgave the guilt of my sin. | 5Then I confessed my sin; I no longer covered up my wrongdoing. I said, "I will confess my rebellious acts to the LORD." And then you forgave my sins. (Selah) |
Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. | 6For this reason every one of your faithful followers should pray to you while there is a window of opportunity. Certainly when the surging water rises, it will not reach them. |
You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. | 7You are my hiding place; you protect me from distress. You surround me with shouts of joy from those celebrating deliverance. (Selah) |
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. | 8I will instruct and teach you about how you should live. I will advise you as I look you in the eye. |
Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. | 9Do not be like an unintelligent horse or mule, which will not obey you unless they are controlled by a bridle and bit. |
Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD's unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. | 10An evil person suffers much pain, but the LORD's faithfulness overwhelms the one who trusts in him. |
Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart! | 11Rejoice in the LORD and be happy, you who are godly! Shout for joy, all you who are morally upright! |
