| 3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, | 3Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, |
| 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. | 4who comforts us in all our troubles so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. |

| 11as you help us by your prayers. | 12Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, with integrity and godly sincerity. We have done so, relying not on worldly wisdom but on God's grace. | 12For our reason for confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity which are from God--not by human wisdom but by the grace of God--we conducted ourselves in the world, and all the more toward you. |

| 17Was I fickle when I intended to do this? Or do I make my plans in a worldly manner so that in the same breath I say both "Yes, yes" and "No, no"? | 17Therefore when I was planning to do this, I did not do so without thinking about what I was doing, did I? Or do I make my plans according to mere human standards so that I would be saying both "Yes, yes" and "No, no" at the same time? |
| 18But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not "Yes" and "No." | 18But as God is faithful, our message to you is not "Yes" and "No." |
| 19For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us--by me and Silas and Timothy--was not "Yes" and "No," but in him it has always been "Yes." | 19For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the one who was proclaimed among you by us--by me and Silvanus and Timothy--was not "Yes" and "No," but it has always been "Yes" in him. |
| 20For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. | 20For every one of God's promises are "Yes" in him; therefore also through him the "Amen" is spoken, to the glory we give to God. |
| 21Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, | 21But it is God who establishes us together with you in Christ and who anointed us, |
| 22set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. | 22who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a down payment. |
| 23I call God as my witness--and I stake my life on it--that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth. | 23Now I appeal to God as my witness, that to spare you I did not come again to Corinth. |
| 24Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm. | 24I do not mean that we rule over your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy, because by faith you stand firm. |
