For the director of music. To the tune of "The Lilies of the Covenant." Of Asaph. A psalm. Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth | 1For the choir director; set to El Shoshannim; Eduth. A Psalm of Asaph. Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth! |
before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh. Awaken your might; come and save us. | 2Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up Your power And come to save us! |
Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. | 3O God, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved. |
How long, LORD God Almighty, will your anger smolder against the prayers of your people? | 4O LORD God of hosts, How long will You be angry with the prayer of Your people? |
You have fed them with the bread of tears; you have made them drink tears by the bowlful. | 5You have fed them with the bread of tears, And You have made them to drink tears in large measure. |
You have made us an object of derision to our neighbors, and our enemies mock us. | 6You make us an object of contention to our neighbors, And our enemies laugh among themselves. |
Restore us, God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. | 7O God of hosts, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved. |
You transplanted a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. | 8You removed a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted it. |
You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land. | 9You cleared the ground before it, And it took deep root and filled the land. |
The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches. | 10The mountains were covered with its shadow, And the cedars of God with its boughs. |
Its branches reached as far as the Sea, its shoots as far as the River. | 11It was sending out its branches to the sea And its shoots to the River. |
Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by pick its grapes? | 12Why have You broken down its hedges, So that all who pass that way pick its fruit? |
Boars from the forest ravage it, and insects from the fields feed on it. | 13A boar from the forest eats it away And whatever moves in the field feeds on it. |
Return to us, God Almighty! Look down from heaven and see! Watch over this vine, | 14O God of hosts, turn again now, we beseech You; Look down from heaven and see, and take care of this vine, |
the root your right hand has planted, the son you have raised up for yourself. | 15Even the shoot which Your right hand has planted, And on the son whom You have strengthened for Yourself. |
Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire; at your rebuke your people perish. | 16It is burned with fire, it is cut down; They perish at the rebuke of Your countenance. |
Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand, the son of man you have raised up for yourself. | 17Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself. |
Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name. | 18Then we shall not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name. |
Restore us, LORD God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. | 19O LORD God of hosts, restore us; Cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved. |
