For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David. Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. | 1For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. |
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. | 2He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. |
How long will you assault me? Would all of you throw me down-- this leaning wall, this tottering fence? | 3How long will all of you attack a man to batter him, like a leaning wall, a tottering fence? |
Surely they intend to topple me from my lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse. | 4They only plan to thrust him down from his high position. They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse. Selah |
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. | 5For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. |
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. | 6He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. |
My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. | 7On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. |
Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. | 8Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah |
Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath. | 9Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath. |
Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them. | 10Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them. |
One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: "Power belongs to you, God, | 11Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, |
and with you, Lord, is unfailing love"; and, "You reward everyone according to what they have done." | 12and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work. |
