6and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. 8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their grandeur. | 8Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. |
9And he said to him, "I will give you all these things if you throw yourself to the ground and worship me." | 9“I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” |

13While in Galilee, he moved from Nazareth to make his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali, | 13He went first to Nazareth, then left there and moved to Capernaum, beside the Sea of Galilee, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. |
14so that what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled: | 14This fulfilled what God said through the prophet Isaiah: |
15"Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way by the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles-- | 15“In the land of Zebulun and of Naphtali, beside the sea, beyond the Jordan River, in Galilee where so many Gentiles live, |
16the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, and on those who sit in the region and shadow of death a light has dawned." | 16the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.” |

18As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen). | 18One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. |
19He said to them, "Follow me, and I will turn you into fishers of people." | 19Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” |
20They left their nets immediately and followed him. | 20And they left their nets at once and followed him. |
21Going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. Then he called them. | 21A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. |

23Jesus went throughout all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of disease and sickness among the people. | 23Jesus traveled throughout the region of Galilee, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. |
24So a report about him spread throughout Syria. People brought to him all who suffered with various illnesses and afflictions, those who had seizures, paralytics, and those possessed by demons, and he healed them. | 24News about him spread as far as Syria, and people soon began bringing to him all who were sick. And whatever their sickness or disease, or if they were demon possessed or epileptic or paralyzed—he healed them all. |
25And large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan River. | 25Large crowds followed him wherever he went—people from Galilee, the Ten Towns, Jerusalem, from all over Judea, and from east of the Jordan River. |
