For the music director; according to the al-tashcheth style; a psalm of Asaph; a song. We give thanks to you, O God! We give thanks! You reveal your presence; people tell about your amazing deeds. | 1For the director of music. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A psalm of Asaph. A song. We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds. |
God says, "At the appointed times, I judge fairly. | 2You say, "I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity. |
When the earth and all its inhabitants dissolve in fear, I make its pillars secure." (Selah) | 3When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm. |
I say to the proud, "Do not be proud," and to the wicked, "Do not be so confident of victory! | 4To the arrogant I say, 'Boast no more,' and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horns. |
Do not be so certain you have won! Do not speak with your head held so high! | 5Do not lift your horns against heaven; do not speak so defiantly.'" |
For victory does not come from the east or west, or from the wilderness. | 6No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt themselves. |
For God is the judge! He brings one down and exalts another. | 7It is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another. |
For the LORD holds in his hand a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices, and pours it out. Surely all the wicked of the earth will slurp it up and drink it to its very last drop." | 8In the hand of the LORD is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its very dregs. |
As for me, I will continually tell what you have done; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob! | 9As for me, I will declare this forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob, |
God says, "I will bring down all the power of the wicked; the godly will be victorious." | 10who says, "I will cut off the horns of all the wicked, but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up." |
