For the music director; according to the al-tashcheth style; a psalm of Asaph; a song. We give thanks to you, O God! We give thanks! You reveal your presence; people tell about your amazing deeds. | 1To the chief Musician, Altaschith, A Psalm or Song of Asaph. Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. |
God says, "At the appointed times, I judge fairly. | 2When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. |
When the earth and all its inhabitants dissolve in fear, I make its pillars secure." (Selah) | 3The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. |
I say to the proud, "Do not be proud," and to the wicked, "Do not be so confident of victory! | 4I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: |
Do not be so certain you have won! Do not speak with your head held so high! | 5Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. |
For victory does not come from the east or west, or from the wilderness. | 6For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. |
For God is the judge! He brings one down and exalts another. | 7But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. |
For the LORD holds in his hand a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices, and pours it out. Surely all the wicked of the earth will slurp it up and drink it to its very last drop." | 8For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. |
As for me, I will continually tell what you have done; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob! | 9But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. |
God says, "I will bring down all the power of the wicked; the godly will be victorious." | 10All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. |
