Psalm 60
NET Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew International Version
For the music director; according to the shushan-eduth style; a prayer of David written to instruct others. It was written when he fought against Aram Naharaim and Aram-Zobah. That was when Joab turned back and struck down 12,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. O God, you have rejected us. You suddenly turned on us in your anger. Please restore us! 1For the director of music. To the tune of "The Lily of the Covenant." A miktam of David. For teaching. When he fought Aram Naharaim and Aram Zobah, and when Joab returned and struck down twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. You have rejected us, God, and burst upon us; you have been angry--now restore us!
You made the earth quake; you split it open. Repair its breaches, for it is ready to fall. 2You have shaken the land and torn it open; mend its fractures, for it is quaking.
You have made your people experience hard times; you have made us drink intoxicating wine. 3You have shown your people desperate times; you have given us wine that makes us stagger.
You have given your loyal followers a rallying flag, so that they might seek safety from the bow. (Selah) 4But for those who fear you, you have raised a banner to be unfurled against the bow.
Deliver by your power and answer me, so that the ones you love may be safe. 5Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered.
God has spoken in his sanctuary: "I will triumph! I will parcel out Shechem; the Valley of Succoth I will measure off. 6God has spoken from his sanctuary: "In triumph I will parcel out Shechem and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth.
Gilead belongs to me, as does Manasseh! Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my royal scepter. 7Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah is my scepter.
Moab is my washbasin. I will make Edom serve me. I will shout in triumph over Philistia." 8Moab is my washbasin, on Edom I toss my sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph."
Who will lead me into the fortified city? Who will bring me to Edom? 9Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?
Have you not rejected us, O God? O God, you do not go into battle with our armies. 10Is it not you, God, you who have now rejected us and no longer go out with our armies?
Give us help against the enemy, for any help men might offer is futile. 11Give us aid against the enemy, for human help is worthless.
By God's power we will conquer; he will trample down our enemies. 12With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.
