A prayer of David. LORD, consider my just cause! Pay attention to my cry for help! Listen to the prayer I sincerely offer! | 1A Prayer of David. Hear a just cause, O LORD, give heed to my cry; Give ear to my prayer, which is not from deceitful lips. |
Make a just decision on my behalf! Decide what is right! | 2Let my judgment come forth from Your presence; Let Your eyes look with equity. |
You have scrutinized my inner motives; you have examined me during the night. You have carefully evaluated me, but you find no sin. I am determined I will say nothing sinful. | 3You have tried my heart; You have visited me by night; You have tested me and You find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. |
As for the actions of people--just as you have commanded, I have not followed in the footsteps of violent men. | 4As for the deeds of men, by the word of Your lips I have kept from the paths of the violent. |
I carefully obey your commands; I do not deviate from them. | 5My steps have held fast to Your paths. My feet have not slipped. |
I call to you for you will answer me, O God. Listen to me! Hear what I say! | 6I have called upon You, for You will answer me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech. |
Accomplish awesome, faithful deeds, you who powerfully deliver those who look to you for protection from their enemies. | 7Wondrously show Your lovingkindness, O Savior of those who take refuge at Your right hand From those who rise up against them. |
Protect me as you would protect the pupil of your eye! Hide me in the shadow of your wings! | 8Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Your wings |
Protect me from the wicked men who attack me, my enemies who crowd around me for the kill. | 9From the wicked who despoil me, My deadly enemies who surround me. |
They are calloused; they speak arrogantly. | 10They have closed their unfeeling heart, With their mouth they speak proudly. |
They attack me, now they surround me; they intend to throw me to the ground. | 11They have now surrounded us in our steps; They set their eyes to cast us down to the ground. |
He is like a lion that wants to tear its prey to bits, like a young lion crouching in hidden places. | 12He is like a lion that is eager to tear, And as a young lion lurking in hiding places. |
Rise up, LORD! Confront him! Knock him down! Use your sword to rescue me from the wicked man! | 13Arise, O LORD, confront him, bring him low; Deliver my soul from the wicked with Your sword, |
LORD, use your power to deliver me from these murderers, from the murderers of this world! They enjoy prosperity; you overwhelm them with the riches they desire. They have many children, and leave their wealth to their offspring. | 14From men with Your hand, O LORD, From men of the world, whose portion is in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your treasure; They are satisfied with children, And leave their abundance to their babes. |
As for me, because I am innocent I will see your face; when I awake you will reveal yourself to me. | 15As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Your likeness when I awake. |
