As I watched, I saw on the platform above the top of the cherubim something like a sapphire, resembling the shape of a throne, appearing above them.1Then I looked, and behold, in the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim something like a sapphire stone, in appearance resembling a throne, appeared above them.
The LORD said to the man dressed in linen, "Go between the wheelwork underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city." He went as I watched. 2And He spoke to the man clothed in linen and said, "Enter between the whirling wheels under the cherubim and fill your hands with coals of fire from between the cherubim and scatter them over the city." And he entered in my sight.
(The cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court.)3Now the cherubim were standing on the right side of the temple when the man entered, and the cloud filled the inner court.
Then the glory of the LORD arose from the cherub and moved to the threshold of the temple. The temple was filled with the cloud while the court was filled with the brightness of the LORD's glory.4Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub to the threshold of the temple, and the temple was filled with the cloud and the court was filled with the brightness of the glory of the LORD.
The sound of the wings of the cherubim could be heard from the outer court, like the sound of the sovereign God when he speaks. 5Moreover, the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer court, like the voice of God Almighty when He speaks.
When the LORD commanded the man dressed in linen, "Take fire from within the wheelwork, from among the cherubim," the man went in and stood by one of the wheels.6It came about when He commanded the man clothed in linen, saying, "Take fire from between the whirling wheels, from between the cherubim," he entered and stood beside a wheel.
Then one of the cherubim stretched out his hand toward the fire which was among the cherubim. He took some and put it into the hands of the man dressed in linen, who took it and left.7Then the cherub stretched out his hand from between the cherubim to the fire which was between the cherubim, took some and put it into the hands of the one clothed in linen, who took it and went out.
(The cherubim appeared to have the form of human hands under their wings.) 8The cherubim appeared to have the form of a man's hand under their wings.
As I watched, I noticed four wheels by the cherubim, one wheel beside each cherub; the wheels gleamed like jasper.9Then I looked, and behold, four wheels beside the cherubim, one wheel beside each cherub; and the appearance of the wheels was like the gleam of a Tarshish stone.
As for their appearance, all four of them looked the same, something like a wheel within a wheel.10As for their appearance, all four of them had the same likeness, as if one wheel were within another wheel.
When they moved, they would go in any of the four directions they faced without turning as they moved; in the direction the head would turn they would follow without turning as they moved,11When they moved, they went in any of their four directions without turning as they went; but they followed in the direction which they faced, without turning as they went.
along with their entire bodies, their backs, their hands, and their wings. The wheels of the four of them were full of eyes all around.12Their whole body, their backs, their hands, their wings and the wheels were full of eyes all around, the wheels belonging to all four of them.
As for their wheels, they were called "the wheelwork" as I listened.13The wheels were called in my hearing, the whirling wheels.
Each of the cherubim had four faces: The first was the face of a cherub, the second that of a man, the third that of a lion, and the fourth that of an eagle. 14And each one had four faces. The first face was the face of a cherub, the second face was the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.
The cherubim rose up; these were the living beings I saw at the Kebar River.15Then the cherubim rose up. They are the living beings that I saw by the river Chebar.
When the cherubim moved, the wheels moved beside them; when the cherubim spread their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels did not move from their side.16Now when the cherubim moved, the wheels would go beside them; also when the cherubim lifted up their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels would not turn from beside them.
When the cherubim stood still, the wheels stood still, and when they rose up, the wheels rose up with them, for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels. 17When the cherubim stood still, the wheels would stand still; and when they rose up, the wheels would rise with them, for the spirit of the living beings was in them.
Then the glory of the LORD moved away from the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim.18Then the glory of the LORD departed from the threshold of the temple and stood over the cherubim.
The cherubim spread their wings, and they rose up from the earth while I watched (when they went the wheels went alongside them). They stopped at the entrance to the east gate of the LORD's temple as the glory of the God of Israel hovered above them. 19When the cherubim departed, they lifted their wings and rose up from the earth in my sight with the wheels beside them; and they stood still at the entrance of the east gate of the LORD'S house, and the glory of the God of Israel hovered over them.
These were the living creatures which I saw at the Kebar River underneath the God of Israel; I knew that they were cherubim.20These are the living beings that I saw beneath the God of Israel by the river Chebar; so I knew that they were cherubim.
Each had four faces; each had four wings and the form of human hands under the wings.21Each one had four faces and each one four wings, and beneath their wings was the form of human hands.
As for the form of their faces, they were the faces whose appearance I had seen at the Kebar River. Each one moved straight ahead. 22As for the likeness of their faces, they were the same faces whose appearance I had seen by the river Chebar. Each one went straight ahead.
