7Solomon had twelve district governors appointed throughout Israel who acquired supplies for the king and his palace. 13Ben-Geber was in charge of Ramoth Gilead; he controlled the tent villages of Jair son of Manasseh in Gilead, as well as the region of Argob in Bashan, including sixty large walled cities with bronze bars locking their gates. | 13Ben-geber, in Ramoth-gilead (the towns of Jair, the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead were his: the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and bronze bars were his); |
14Ahinadab son of Iddo was in charge of Mahanaim. | 14Ahinadab the son of Iddo, in Mahanaim; |
15Ahimaaz was in charge of Naphtali. (He married Solomon's daughter Basemath.) | 15Ahimaaz, in Naphtali (he also married Basemath the daughter of Solomon); |
16Baana son of Hushai was in charge of Asher and Aloth. | 16Baana the son of Hushai, in Asher and Bealoth; |
17Jehoshaphat son of Paruah was in charge of Issachar. | 17Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah, in Issachar; |
18Shimei son of Ela was in charge of Benjamin. | 18Shimei the son of Ela, in Benjamin; |
19Geber son of Uri was in charge of the land of Gilead (the territory which had once belonged to King Sihon of the Amorites and to King Og of Bashan). He was sole governor of the area. | 19Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only deputy who was in the land. |
20The people of Judah and Israel were as innumerable as the sand on the seashore; they had plenty to eat and drink and were happy. | 20Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand that is on the seashore in abundance; they were eating and drinking and rejoicing. |
21Solomon ruled all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These kingdoms paid tribute as Solomon's subjects throughout his lifetime. | 21Now Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt; they brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life. |

24His royal court was so large because he ruled over all the kingdoms west of the Euphrates River from Tiphsah to Gaza; he was at peace with all his neighbors. | 24For he had dominion over everything west of the River, from Tiphsah even to Gaza, over all the kings west of the River; and he had peace on all sides around about him. |
25All the people of Judah and Israel had security; everyone from Dan to Beer Sheba enjoyed the produce of their vines and fig trees throughout Solomon's lifetime. | 25So Judah and Israel lived in safety, every man under his vine and his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon. |
26Solomon had 4,000 stalls for his chariot horses and 12,000 horses. | 26Solomon had 40,000 stalls of horses for his chariots, and 12,000 horsemen. |
27The district governors acquired supplies for King Solomon and all who ate in his royal palace. Each was responsible for one month in the year; they made sure nothing was lacking. | 27Those deputies provided for King Solomon and all who came to King Solomon's table, each in his month; they left nothing lacking. |
28Each one also brought to the assigned location his quota of barley and straw for the various horses. | 28They also brought barley and straw for the horses and swift steeds to the place where it should be, each according to his charge. |
29God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment; the breadth of his understanding was as infinite as the sand on the seashore. | 29Now God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of mind, like the sand that is on the seashore. |
30Solomon was wiser than all the men of the east and all the sages of Egypt. | 30Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt. |
31He was wiser than any man, including Ethan the Ezrahite or Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol. He was famous in all the neighboring nations. | 31For he was wiser than all men, than Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, Calcol and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was known in all the surrounding nations. |
32He composed 3,000 proverbs and 1,005 songs. | 32He also spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs were 1,005. |
33He produced manuals on botany, describing every kind of plant, from the cedars of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows on walls. He also produced manuals on biology, describing animals, birds, insects, and fish. | 33He spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that grows on the wall; he spoke also of animals and birds and creeping things and fish. |
34People from all nations came to hear Solomon's display of wisdom; they came from all the kings of the earth who heard about his wisdom. | 34Men came from all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom. |
