For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of David. For God alone I patiently wait; he is the one who delivers me. 1To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David. Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended. 2He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
How long will you threaten a man? All of you are murderers, as dangerous as a leaning wall or an unstable fence. 3How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.
They spend all their time planning how to bring him down. They love to use deceit; they pronounce blessings with their mouths, but inwardly they utter curses. (Selah) 4They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.
Patiently wait for God alone, my soul! For he is the one who gives me confidence. 5My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended. 6He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
God delivers me and exalts me; God is my strong protector and my shelter. 7In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
Trust in him at all times, you people! Pour out your hearts before him! God is our shelter! (Selah) 8Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.
Men are nothing but a mere breath; human beings are unreliable. When they are weighed in the scales, all of them together are lighter than air. 9Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.
Do not trust in what you can gain by oppression! Do not put false confidence in what you can gain by robbery! If wealth increases, do not become attached to it! 10Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.
God has declared one principle; two principles I have heard: God is strong, 11God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.
and you, O Lord, demonstrate loyal love. For you repay men for what they do. 12Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.
