For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of David. For God alone I patiently wait; he is the one who delivers me. | 1I am at rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. |
He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended. | 2He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will never be shaken. |
How long will you threaten a man? All of you are murderers, as dangerous as a leaning wall or an unstable fence. | 3How long will you threaten a man? Will all of you attack as if he were a leaning wall or a tottering fence? |
They spend all their time planning how to bring him down. They love to use deceit; they pronounce blessings with their mouths, but inwardly they utter curses. (Selah) | 4They only plan to bring him down from his high position. They take pleasure in lying; they bless with their mouths, but they curse inwardly. Selah |
Patiently wait for God alone, my soul! For he is the one who gives me confidence. | 5Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from him. |
He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended. | 6He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken. |
God delivers me and exalts me; God is my strong protector and my shelter. | 7My salvation and glory depend on God, my strong rock. My refuge is in God. |
Trust in him at all times, you people! Pour out your hearts before him! God is our shelter! (Selah) | 8Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before him. God is our refuge. Selah |
Men are nothing but a mere breath; human beings are unreliable. When they are weighed in the scales, all of them together are lighter than air. | 9Common people are only a vapor; important people, an illusion. Together on a scale, they weigh less than a vapor. |
Do not trust in what you can gain by oppression! Do not put false confidence in what you can gain by robbery! If wealth increases, do not become attached to it! | 10Place no trust in oppression, or false hope in robbery. If wealth increases, don't set your heart on it. |
God has declared one principle; two principles I have heard: God is strong, | 11God has spoken once; I have heard this twice: strength belongs to God, |
and you, O Lord, demonstrate loyal love. For you repay men for what they do. | 12and faithful love belongs to you, LORD. For you repay each according to his works. |
